For a better experience, please enable JavaScript in your browser before proceeding.I sold him the dash cluster thats in his Nova.may have been the original one out of the 44 Gibb Nova because previous owner cut a hole in it for a radio I had a back up.
Cant remember all the details but they came over and shot pix of 44 for a catalog when Year One began selling aftermarket parts. Bet she smoked a few guys (no pun intended) stoplight to stoplight with that sleeper:thumbsup. ![]() Dan, He may have been able to race the car in NHRA back then if production was less than 50 units.I know the 67 Vette L-88 was allowed for a while and then was removed from the guide. Thats why Fred Gibb ordered 50 Novas in 68 with the special M-40 automatics.so he could race one. Piggens, was the 1st time Chevy matched a BB solid lifter 396 motor with an automatic. Mike, pretty sure NHRA SS required that at least 50-not less than 50 units be built. The Cast iron 840 closed chambers are 106 cc closed chamber. The valve size on a Aluminum head 842 is 2.191.84. The valve size on a Cast iron 840 is 2.191.72. Putting a 3946074 on a 11 to 1 Compression motor would kill performance. Those heads were used on the ZL1L88 in 1969 with 12 12 to 1 pistons. Jude you do know some of those 68 Nova SS396375HP L78 turbo 400 werent sold till late in the 1969 Nova SS396375HP turbo 400 production year. Dick Harrell Tweaked the 68 L78 Turbo 400 Novas with Cragar SS mags,Stinger Hoods,Headers,Performance tune ups etc. Some few got a 427425HP shortblocks and some few got the Badass L88 Aluminum Head 12 12 to 1 motor 4 speeds way out sold the L78 turbo 400 Novas, most wanted to shift a 4 speed and still do. I had 3 4 speeds,07A,07B and 07C 1968 Nova SS cars,3 Luckey 7s in July 1968. Jude Do you know which GM head was used on that 11 to 1 427425HP Burnish Brown 1969 Copo Camaro. Too bad we cant get paperwork from Chevy like the Poncho guys can purchase from PHS. I always thought L88 was an aluminum head 427, and L89 was an aluminum head 396. Seriously good Question, what would GM have called that option Gary what do you think.
